Jonny Greenwood and Thom Yorke playing my favorite Portishead song, The Rip. As someone commented, “genius covering genius.” Or as Les inrocks put it, “Quand l’un des groupes les plus passionnants du Monde, Radiohead, s’attaque à l’un des groupes les plus passionnants du Monde, Portishead, cela donne ça : une version magnifique de The Rip par Jonny Greenwood et Thom Yorke.” It’s brilliant. A much more subdued version than the original but affecting nonetheless. I love the intimacy of this. One gets the feeling of seeing a couple of regular guys sitting around strumming their guitar. By the way, Les Inrockuptibles has always been my favorite magazine for music. They used to give away fantastic compilations of new music every season.
