This week I am in one of the most beautiful little spots in the world, tucked away among farm fields in le Lot-et-Garonne. I sleep in a stone pigeonnier with windows overlooking a lavander field and the farms beyond. There is a small terrace with a wisteria pergola outside the bathroom downstairs. Tonight we went to dinner at a neighbor’s house, which is about half a mile down the hill. It’s a magnificently restored 17th-century stone house with a formal garden in front and a corn field abutting farmland in the back. We were given delicate pink eggs from the house’s chickens to take home for our breakfast tomorrow morning.
