Thomas Heatherwick’s extraordinary moving bridge in London. Paul Goldberger wrote an interesting piece on his designs, which include the Longchamp store in SoHo, the sculptural façade to a London hospital, and a table “possessing, like much of Heatherwick’s work, both the wit of an epigram and the conceptual elegance of a mathematical proof.” Heatherwick attributes his unique approach to design to his interest in making things. I always bemoan the fact that children today are not taught to make anything anymore. Lovely Frances and I are planning to instigate a craft night for our girls in the fall.
